Why measure
Your standards live on paper. Your guests meet them in person.
Satisfaction surveys tell you how people felt. A mystery shopper tells you what actually happened, in the same order, against the same standard, every time.
It shows the gap
The distance between what your brand promises and what a guest experiences at the front desk, the till, the first tee or the table.
It holds standards in place
Staff who know a shopper may visit at any time keep standards consistent, not only on the days someone senior is watching.
It directs your training
Scores by touchpoint show exactly where education will change results, so training is aimed instead of generic.
It links to spend
RCA's aim in every engagement is a stronger employee connection to culture and a better per-head spend as guests feel more value at each step.
Ways to shop
Reach the experience wherever it happens.
Match the method to how your customers actually reach you. Most programmes combine two.
In-person visits
A matched shopper visits, stays or plays, and reports on the full journey against your scorecard.
- Arrival, service and product knowledge
- Facilities and presentation
- Departure and follow-up
Online mystery shopping
Shoppers complete the online journey on your website and app, from search to delivery and returns.
- Site and app navigation
- Checkout and payment
- Delivery, returns and refunds
Call centre and phone shops
Shoppers place scripted calls to your contact centre, reservations or store lines and score every call.
- Speed to answer and call opening
- Accuracy and first-contact resolution
- Compliance steps and call close
Our shoppers
Matched to your market, not drawn from a stranger pool.
RCA selects shoppers from its own mystery shopper community and matches them to your target market. A boutique hotel, a fashion retailer and a golf estate each hear from someone who genuinely fits their guest.
Profile matched
Shoppers are chosen to reflect the people you want to serve, so feedback comes from the right point of view.
Briefed and calibrated
Every shopper completes your scenario and scorecard briefing before the first visit.
Anonymous to your team
Reports describe the experience and the role involved. Findings are used to coach, not to expose.
Reporting
Results you can read in a minute and act on in a week.
Findings are delivered through FeedForward, RCA's measurement and reporting platform: scores by section, change over time, and the shopper's own words.

Mystery shopping works when it is honest, evidence-based and used to develop people. Industry codes of practice emphasise accurate reporting and ethical conduct, and RCA's programmes follow the same principles.
Scenarios are legal, ethical and safe. Reports are quality-checked before delivery. Results are used to coach and educate staff, which is why every cycle ends with a review, not a verdict.
Questions
What clients ask before they start.
What is mystery shopping?
A matched shopper experiences your service as a customer would and reports against your scorecard, whether the venue is a hotel, a golf club, a restaurant or a store.
How many visits do we need?
That depends on how many locations you operate and how quickly you want to see change. A single venue often starts quarterly. A national retail footprint is usually scheduled in waves so every store is measured on the same basis.
Can you measure more than in-person visits?
Yes. We run on-site, online and call centre shops, and can pair them with QR code guest feedback so you see both the guest's own view and the shopper's audit view.
Who writes the scorecard?
You and RCA, together, in the Define stage. It is built from your own brand standards, so staff are measured on what you have already asked them to do.
How are results shared with staff?
Through a review session and the FeedForward dashboard. Results feed directly into the education plan, so the next round of training is aimed at the lowest-scoring touchpoints.
Do you work outside the Western Cape?
Yes. RCA is based in Cape Town and has measured venues across South Africa, including Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
How do we get started?
Send us a short brief using the form below. We will come back with questions and a proposal that sets out scope, frequency and investment.
